Norwich 81, Johnson City 59 (boys)
Norwich 95, Johnson City 42 (girls)
NORWICH – Sporting its deepest lineup and largest numbers in the program in several years, the Tornado won their season-opening meet Tuesday sweeping Johnson City.
Keegan Edwards led the Tornado boys with four victories, and Norwich won all but five events. The key, said co-head coach Phil Curley, was not giving away points. “If we’re giving any points away, the other team is earning them,” he said. “I felt we had some really good times for early April.”
Katie Benenati also had four wins for Norwich on the girls’ side, and Norwich was more dominant losing just four events overall. Elisha Eddy added three wins and a third-place finish, and Norwich swept first through third in the shot put and 400 meters.

Whitney Point 9, Greene 8
WHITNEY POINT – Mike McCrone smacked a pair of three-run homers, and an infield error in the last of the seventh plated the winning run for Whitney Point in Tuesday’s matchup with Greene.
The Trojans twice rallied from four runs down tying the game in the fourth and seventh innings. Keith Savory had three hits and three runs for Greene (1-1), John Carlin drove in a run on two hits, and Nate Whittaker scored two runs. “Coming back the way we did is a credit to how hard we’re playing,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We’re doing some good things, and I know our pitching is better than the seven walks we issued tonight. And other than the two home runs, (Whitney Point) didn’t hit the ball hard today.”
Greene is scheduled to host Afton today.

Oxford 7, Deposit 0
OXFORD – Steve Locke tossed a three-hit shutout striking out 11 and walking none to lead Oxford to a third straight win this season.
The Blackhawks had three hits and took advantage of two Deposit errors to score five runs in the third inning. Trevor Nelson, Jake Vincent, and Ian Grundner had RBI hits, while Pat Wade added an RBI groundout. Oxford tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth, and in both innings they scored, the Blackhawks’ leadoff hitter walked. “Steve was pretty much dominant and we played nice defense behind him,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “Jake (catcher) also threw out two baserunners.”
Oxford is slated to host Delhi today.
