Greene 50, Unadilla Valley 46
NEW BERLIN – Greene turned back Unadilla Valley’s upset bid Thursday ralling in the fourth quarter to hand the Storm their sixth straight defeat.
Barb Borst, Megan McDermott, and Lizzy Buhl all had four points in the last quarter, and Jessica Smith hit 3-of-4 foul shots in a 17-8 stanza. Smith finished with a game-high 17 points, and kept her club in the hunt scoring seven in the third quarter as UV extended a two-point halftime lead to five.
“We needed this win and led most of the game,” said UV coach Daryl Decker. “In the fourth quarter they just turned up the defense. We turned it over and rushed some shots. Everything was clicking for us for three quarters. We came out and played like we were supposed to.”
Borst added 10 points, while Buhl and McDermott split 16 points down the middle.
Cierra Izard led UV (5-10) with nine points.

Greene 42, Sherburne-Earlville 27
GREENE – Sherburne-Earlville ran into a team whose lineup strength was in the same spots as itself. The Trojans showed superior muscle in the middleweights and went on to win the non-league matchup Thursday night.
Jake Wentlent pulled away in the final minute of his 152-pound matchup with S-E standout Wheeler Brunschmid. Holding just a 5-4 lead, Wentlent compiled an escape, takedown and back points for the 10-4 win. In the next matchup, Greene’s Brendan Hickey pulled off a takedown in the last two seconds to win his 160-pound battle with Mike Ezzo. “This was just a great experience for both teams, and Greene is such a well-coached team,” said S-E assistant coach Brian Hicks. “Both teams have a lot of tough kids, and this was a good matchup for them as they head into their league tournament.”
Zach Thomas (171) won by decision, while John Posson (189) and Chris Pike (215) had pins for the Marauders, who led 15-6 after five bouts. Pins by Greene’s Jacob Shearer (103), Brock Kiddy (112), and Nick Wilcox (119) put Greene in front to stay.
S-E is at Herkimer tonight.
