Greene 6, Walton 3

WALTON – Blanked in the first half, Greene’s offense erupted in the second half for six goals in a win at Walton Wednesday.

After trading goals the first 30 minutes of the second half, Haley Burns’ second tally with nine minutes left put the Trojans up for good. Jessie Bates and Autumn Layton added tallies just over a minute apart in the final four minutes – both off Megan McDermott passes.

“We were spectators in the first half, and we had trouble stopping their offense until the final 15 minutes,” said Greene coach Randy Smith. “We passed it better in the second half and had some nice breakaways. We finally broke the net down a little bit.”

Greene (5-3, 7-5) hosts Bainbridge-Guilford Friday.

Greene 3, Vestal 0

VESTAL – Greene upped the tempo in the second half scoring all of its goals to win its third straight game Wednesday at Vestal.

Sara Ostrander beat the Vestal defense for the first goal driving in from the left side, and threading the needle into the near post just three minutes into play. Holly Davis added a goal 2 1/2 minutes later, and Amanda Barton completed the scoring-by-committee offense.

Head coach Sue Carlin said a switch in the midfield keyed the second-half offense. “We moved Christine Conroe to center midfield, and she was a spark for us,” Carlin said. “She sees the field and distributes the ball well. She is also a scoring threat.”
