Coming off a winless season in 2005, the Blackhawks are situated at 2-3 on the campaign. “We’ve always considered Unadilla Valley a solid program, and we’re extremely excited about this victory,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle.

With under 11 minutes to play, Felicia Tynan gathered Katie Whaley’s throw-in and tallied the game winner. Katie Seiler had the tying goal in the second half after UV’s Jenn Convis gave her club a brief 2-1 advantage.

“We started out slow in this game, but we picked it up late in the first half and it carried through the rest of the game,” Cragle said.

Oxford plays at Sidney Friday.

The Trojans scored on three of their four shots, and Aubrey Parrish made six saves in goal. “This is a big win for us coming off two losses last week,” Smith said. “We played with more energy and were more together.”

Jessie Bates opened the scoring at the 25:43 mark of the first half scoring on a direct kick, and Autumn Layton blasted a bullet into the net just 1:14 later. Megan McDermott added the final tally with 14 minutes remaining in the game.

“Aubrey was incredible in goal today; she handled some serious shots,” Smith said. “Tara Bub and Haley Burns were outstanding in the defensive backfield as well.”

After Brittany O’Brien tied the game early in the second overtime, Kati Holowacz made a crossing pass to Celestia Nabinger, who brought the ball in tight and scored the winner at 4:01. It was Nabinger’s second goal of the game, and it improved B-G’s league record to 3-0 (5-1-1 overall). “Walton has only 13 kids, but they are about the scrappiest bunch of players I’ve seen,” said B-G coach George Williams. “We didn’t play as well as we could, but we still won.”
